AGROPET polyester cable

Hail netting that holds up season after season

AGROPET® polyester cable replaces galvanised wire in the load-bearing structure of your hail netting. It doesn't rust, is dielectric and stays stable from −40 °C to +90 °C, so the system stays taut and firm even when the hail comes down. Recommended gauges: 3, 4 and 5 mm.

✓ Doesn't rust or stain ✓ Dielectric (non-conductive) ✓ 5× lighter than steel ✓ Made in Europe · ISO
Hail netting with AGROPET® polyester cable

Hail netting

Why swap the wire for polyester on your hail protection

A hail protection installation subjects the load-bearing lines to years of weather, constant tension and shock loads when the netting catches the hail. Galvanised steel wire rusts with damp, salt air and crop sprays, loses cross-section and eventually gives way right at the headlands and anchors. AGROPET® polyester monofilament (high-tenacity PET thread) never rusts: it is immune to damp, coastal salt air and crop sprays, so the support mesh keeps its breaking strength throughout the service life of the netting.

What's more, AGROPET® is dielectric (doesn't conduct electricity), weighs about 5 times less than steel (1,36 g/cm³) and withstands UV radiation and a range of −40 °C a +90 °C without becoming brittle or dilating excessively. It tensions at 1% with strainers or Gripple® and is tied by hand, with no cutting tools or welding. It is 100% recyclable and made in Europe by Textil Villa de Pego, S.L. (Pego, Alicante), certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

  • Rust-free: immune to damp, salt air and crop sprays; the support structure keeps its breaking strength throughout the life of the netting, without losing cross-section like galvanised wire.
  • Dielectric and safe: it doesn't conduct electricity, a real advantage in plots with nearby power lines or a risk of storms over the metal structures of the hail protection.
  • 5 times lighter: at 1,36 g/cm³ against steel, one coil yields far more metres and reduces the effort of running out and mounting on the posts.
  • Stable from −40 °C to +90 °C: it withstands UV radiation and cold and heat cycles without becoming brittle, keeping the netting taut and firm when the hail arrives.
  • Recyclable and European: 100% recyclable, made in Europe by Textil Villa de Pego, S.L. to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001; it tensions at 1% with Gripple® and is tied by hand without tools.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about cable for hail netting

Which cable gauge do I need for hail netting?
For fruit trees and vineyards we recommend the 3, 4 and 5 mm gauges. The 3 mm (365 kgf) serves for longitudinal and transverse lines on medium-sized fruit trees; the 4 mm (405 kgf) for main and headland lines; and the 5 mm (616 kgf) for master and perimeter cables under maximum load on large plots or areas of intense hail.
Does polyester withstand hail impacts as well as wire?
Yes. AGROPET® monofilament is high-tenacity PET polyester and keeps its breaking strength from −40 °C to +90 °C. Unlike galvanised wire, it doesn't rust or lose cross-section over the years, so the structure keeps carrying the shock load of the caught netting without weakening season after season.
Can it be tensioned and tied like traditional wire?
Yes, and more comfortably. It tensions at 1% with strainers or Gripple® systems and is tied by hand, with no cutting tools or welding. As it weighs about 5 times less than steel, running it out over the posts and headlands is faster and less harsh on the hands.
Does dielectric cable add safety on hail protection?
AGROPET® polyester doesn't conduct electricity, which reduces risk on plots with nearby power lines or exposed to storms over metal structures. It is a safety advantage that galvanised steel wire cannot offer.
Does it withstand sun and crop sprays?
Yes. It withstands UV radiation and is immune to damp, salt air and crop sprays, so it doesn't degrade or rust with crop treatments. It is made in Europe by Textil Villa de Pego, S.L. with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification, and is 100% recyclable at the end of its service life.
