Espalier thread for espalier crops that doesn't rust
AGROPET® is the high-tenacity polyester cable that replaces galvanised wire on the horizontal lines of the espalier. It doesn't rust, is dielectric and withstands years of sun, heat and frost while holding the plane of the espalier on which the branches of the fruit tree are trained.
Espalier crops
The thread the espalier needs on every horizontal line
Espalier training on espaliers (or fruit espalier) forms a flat, narrow hedge: the post structure carries several horizontal lines onto which the main branches of the fruit tree —apple, pear, peach, cherry or plum— are tied and trained to spread the light, ease pruning and mechanise harvesting. Those lines work under tension throughout the life of the plantation, exposed to fertigation, crop sprays and the load of the fruiting canopy.
AGROPET® is a high-tenacity PET polyester monofilament that replaces steel wire on those lines: it tensions with the same tools (Gripple®, strainers, clamps), is tied by hand and does not rust or lose cross-section over time. Being dielectric, light (1,36 g/cm³, about 5 times less than steel) and stable from −40 °C to +90 °C, it keeps the plane of the espalier straight and the tension constant season after season. It is 100% recyclable and made in Europe by Textil Villa de Pego, S.L. (Pego, Alicante) to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
- Doesn't rust or stain: immune to damp, salt air, fertigation and crop sprays; it leaves no rust marks on the posts, the fruit or the ground of the espalier.
- Dielectric: it doesn't conduct electricity, which means safety against storms and power lines near the espalier lines.
- 5× lighter than steel: with a specific gravity of 1,36 g/cm³, it cuts the effort and cost of running the several levels of horizontal line that each espalier row carries.
- Stable from −40 °C to +90 °C: it withstands UV radiation and copes with extreme summers and blossom frosts without losing the tension that keeps the plane of the espalier straight.
- Tensions at 1% with standard tools: it is installed with Gripple® and strainers, tied by hand without cutting, and is 100% recyclable, made in Europe to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
