AGROPET polyester cable

Polyester thread for trellising tomato, pepper and vegetables

AGROPET® is a high-tenacity PET polyester monofilament that guides and supports tomato, pepper, cucumber and bean in the greenhouse and outdoors. It doesn't rust, is dielectric and lasts the whole season without staining the fruit or damaging the stem. The durable alternative to galvanised wire and raffia. Almería, Murcia, the Canaries.

Why trellis vegetables with AGROPET® polyester

Vertical vegetable trellising calls for load-bearing and hanging lines that hold the weight of the plant laden with fruit for months, in high-humidity environments and with crop sprays. AGROPET® is a high-tenacity PET polyester monofilament that replaces galvanised steel wire on the master line and competes with raffia on the individual trellising thread: it doesn't rust (it is immune to damp, salt air and crop sprays), so it doesn't stain the fruit or rust-mark the greenhouse walls.

Being dielectric it doesn't conduct electricity, a real advantage in structures with fertigation and motors. It weighs up to 5 times less than steel (density 1,36 g/cm³), so 10 kg coils yield far more metres and are handled effortlessly at height. It withstands UV radiation and works from −40 °C a +90 °C, tensions at 1% with Gripple® or strainers and is tied by hand without cutting your fingers. It is 100% recyclable and made in Europe by Textil Villa de Pego, S.L. (Pego, Alicante), certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

  • Doesn't rust or stain the fruit: immune to damp, salt air and crop sprays; it leaves no rust rings on tomato, pepper or cucumber.
  • Dielectric: it doesn't conduct electricity, safe in greenhouses with fertigation, motors and electric pumps.
  • Up to 5 times lighter than steel: at 1,36 g/cm³, the 10 kg coils yield more metres and are handled effortlessly when hanging the lines at height.
  • UV-resistant and from −40 °C to +90 °C: it lasts the whole season in full sun under plastic and outdoors without becoming brittle.
  • Tensions at 1% and ties by hand: with Gripple® or strainers; it doesn't cut your fingers during installation and is 100% recyclable, made in Europe to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about vegetable trellising

Which AGROPET® gauge do I use to trellis tomato or pepper?
For vegetable trellising and hanging thread we recommend the 2,2 mm (215 kgf breaking load) on light crops such as bean, cucumber or bush tomato, and the 2,6 mm (300 kgf) on heavily laden or long-cycle crops such as cluster tomato and high-yield pepper. We'll advise you according to planting density and the expected weight of the harvest.
Does AGROPET® stain the fruit like galvanised wire?
No. Being polyester it doesn't rust, so it leaves no rust rings or marks on the fruit or the stem, unlike galvanised steel wire. It is immune to the constant greenhouse humidity, salt air and crop sprays, so it keeps the fruit clean all season.
Is it better than raffia for trellising?
For the load-bearing line and the long-cycle hanging thread, yes: the high-tenacity polyester monofilament takes far more breaking load without stretching or snapping under the weight of the cluster, doesn't degrade in UV during the season and is 100% recyclable. Raffia is cheaper for occasional tying, but loses strength under sun and load.
Does it work both in the greenhouse and outdoors?
Yes. AGROPET® withstands UV radiation and works from −40 °C to +90 °C, so it performs the same under plastic as outdoors or in a tunnel. It doesn't rust with damp or dew and, being dielectric, is safe in structures with fertigation and electric motors.
How is it installed and tensioned?
It tensions at 1% with Gripple® or standard strainers and is tied by hand without special tools or cutting your fingers. It is up to 5 times lighter than steel (1,36 g/cm³), so hanging and tensioning the lines at height is far more convenient, and the 10 kg coils yield far more metres than a roll of wire of the same weight.
