AGROPET polyester cable

Support lines that don't rust or lose tension

Support lines are the tensioned load-bearing cables that carry crops and agricultural structures. AGROPET® is the high-tenacity polyester (PET) monofilament that replaces galvanised wire in these lines: it doesn't rust, is dielectric and weighs 5 times less than steel. For main and heavily loaded lines we work with the 3, 4 and 5 mm gauges.

Support lines

What a support line is and why AGROPET®

A support line is the load-bearing or carrying cable tensioned between posts to hold the weight of a trellised crop, a screen, a cover or the agricultural structure itself. It is the line that builds up the most load throughout the whole season, so it needs a stable breaking strength and a material that won't slacken or deteriorate out in the open. The AGROPET® polyester monofilament tensions at 1% with Gripple® or strainers, recovers elastically and holds its tension season after season, with no need for the constant re-tensioning that wire requires.

Compared with galvanised steel wire, AGROPET® brings three decisive advantages to a load-bearing line. It never rusts: it is 100% immune to damp, salt air and crop sprays, so it doesn't stain the crop or lose load over time. It is dielectric (doesn't conduct electricity), safe alongside power lines and fertigation. And it is about 5× lighter than steel (1,36 g/cm³), which speeds up the installation of long runs. It withstands UV and temperatures from −40 °C to +90 °C, is 100% recyclable and made in Europe by Textil Villa de Pego, S.L. (Pego, Alicante), certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

  • It never rusts: PET polyester is 100% immune to damp, salt air and crop sprays, so the line doesn't stain the crop or lose load over the years.
  • Dielectric: it doesn't conduct electricity, so the support line is safe alongside power lines and fertigation systems.
  • 5 times lighter: at 1,36 g/cm³ against steel, long runs are handled and tensioned far faster, without cutting your hands.
  • Holds its tension: it tensions at 1% with Gripple® or strainers and recovers elastically, without the season-after-season re-tensioning that wire demands.
  • Strong and sustainable: it withstands UV and −40 °C to +90 °C, is 100% recyclable and made in Europe to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Frequently asked questions

Support lines: frequently asked questions

What gauge do I need for a support line?
For load-bearing and heavily loaded lines we recommend the 3, 4 and 5 mm gauges: 365 kgf breaking load on the 3 mm, 405 kgf on the 4 mm and 616 kgf on the 5 mm. The greater the load of the crop or structure, the larger the gauge; we'll advise you according to the span and the weight to be carried.
Does the support cable rust or lose tension?
No. Being polyester (PET), it is 100% immune to corrosion: damp, salt air and crop sprays don't affect it. It tensions at 1% and recovers elastically, holding its tension season after season without the re-tensioning that galvanised wire requires.
Is it safe to use near power lines or fertigation?
Yes. AGROPET® is dielectric: it doesn't conduct electricity. That's why a polyester support line is safe alongside power lines and in installations with fertigation, unlike steel cable.
Does it replace galvanised wire in a load-bearing line?
Yes, directly. It tensions with the same tools (Gripple®, pulleys, strainers) and is tied by hand, but it doesn't rust, weighs about 5 times less (1,36 g/cm³), withstands UV and −40 °C to +90 °C, and is 100% recyclable at the end of its service life.

Do you need cable for your support lines?

We'll advise you on the gauge (3, 4 or 5 mm) to suit the span, load and exposure of your load-bearing line. Tailored quote in under 24 working hours, no obligation.
