AGROPET polyester cable

Hanging lines for tobacco drying barns that don't rust or stain the leaf

AGROPET® is the high-tenacity PET polyester monofilament that replaces galvanised steel wire on the hanging and drying lines for tobacco. It doesn't rust in the damp of the drying barn or stain the leaf, is dielectric and weighs about 5 times less than steel. Ideal for the drying barns of Extremadura.

Tobacco drying barns with AGROPET® polyester cable

Tobacco drying sheds

The cable the tobacco drying barn needs

In a tobacco drying barn the hanging lines work for weeks in an environment laden with humidity, where galvanised steel wire rusts, leaves rust marks and ends up staining the leaf that is curing. AGROPET® is the PET polyester monofilament that forms those same hanging lines without ever rusting: immune to damp, salt air and crop sprays, it doesn't transfer rust to the product and keeps the leaf clean from the start to the end of drying.

As well as not rusting, polyester is dielectric (doesn't conduct electricity, safer alongside the barn's electrical installation and lighting), weighs about 5 times less than steel (1,36 g/cm³), withstands UV and works from −40 °C to +90 °C without losing tension. It tensions at 1% with Gripple® and standard strainers, is tied by hand without cutting your fingers, is 100% recyclable and made in Europe by Textil Villa de Pego, S.L. (Pego, Alicante) to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. It works just as well for hanging other aromatic and medicinal plants in drying barns.

  • Doesn't rust or stain the leaf: immune to the constant damp of the drying barn, salt air and crop sprays; it transfers no rust or marks to the tobacco that is curing.
  • Dielectric: it doesn't conduct electricity, safer alongside the lighting, fans and electrical installation of the drying barn.
  • 5× lighter than steel: at 1,36 g/cm³, the lines are set up and handled with far less effort over long runs.
  • Withstands UV and −40 °C to +90 °C: it copes with the heat of drying and the winters out in the open without becoming brittle or losing tension.
  • 100% recyclable and European: made in Europe by Textil Villa de Pego, S.L. (Pego, Alicante) to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, with recyclable material at the end of its service life.

Frequently asked questions

Tobacco drying barns: frequently asked questions

Why use polyester cable instead of wire in a tobacco drying barn?
Because galvanised steel wire rusts in the damp environment of the drying barn and leaves rust marks that stain the leaf. AGROPET® is PET polyester monofilament: it never rusts, transfers no rust to the product and keeps the leaf clean throughout drying.
Does polyester withstand the damp and heat of drying?
Yes. AGROPET® is immune to damp, salt air and crop sprays, withstands UV and works from −40 °C to +90 °C without losing tension, so it copes with both the heat of curing and exposure to the weather between seasons.
What cable gauge is used to hang tobacco?
For the hanging lines, the 2,6 mm (300 kgf breaking) and the 3 mm (365 kgf) are commonly used; for main lines and long spans, the 4 mm (405 kgf). We'll advise you according to the load per span and the distance between the supports of your drying barn.
Is it safe alongside the electrical installation of the drying barn?
Yes. Polyester is dielectric: it doesn't conduct electricity, unlike steel wire. That makes it safer alongside the lighting, fans and power lines of the drying barn.
Can it be used to dry plants other than tobacco?
Yes. The same polyester lines work for hanging and drying aromatic and medicinal plants: as they don't rust or stain, they keep the product clean in any drying barn.

Shall we set up the lines of your drying barn with AGROPET®?
